Research into Target Audience

Research into Target Audience

For the research into the target audience for our music video we used the 'You.gov' website to gather to useful information that could be crucial for the process of our music video.

Unfortunately our brand 'Little Mix' wasn't on their so we decided to still use it however use a different band that would relate to the same target audience as mine; One Direction.

From this we were told that the age range for our audience was between 18-24,were mainly female and their professions included things such as fashion design and emergency services. This helps us with our branding of the print as we know it needs to appeal to those that are fashionable but also sensible to the point that would interest a medical professional. However the results also showed that the target audiences monthly pay was around £125 which is fairly low and would reflect a retail job. Therefore our selling price for the CD would have to be very affordable for it to even be a considered purchase for the target audience. The results showed us the interests of the specific target audience, these included beauty and celebrities which is perfect to create the idea of a Little Mix fan.

We can link we can link what we found to our previous primary research questionnaires. Here we also found that the majority Little Mix fans were female and were in retail jobs and therefore in low monthly pay. However I disagree with the age range that was discussed on the site (18-24) as i feel that even if this does relate to One Direction it doesn't necessarily link to Little Mix. Instead I feel that the age range of the target audience would be more like 12-24 as it covers a wide range of ages and their music relates to this.

Lady Gaga - Bad Romance

Lady Gaga – Bad Romance

Lady Gaga is a female artist that can be seen as unique in the music industry. This can be seen through her music and her videos. She likes to express her feelings and views on the music industry through these music videos. A particular one where this is portrayed through is the Bad Romance video.

At the beginning of the bad romance music video there are several pods that are holding Lady Gaga and several others. This is as if they are being created and born which could illustrate that they are being born into the music industry and have been moulded by them so that they look and act the way they want them too. When Lady Gaga and the other women come out of the pods they are wearing white, this could symbolise purity and how they are innocent until they are manipulated by the music industry. Also, they are wearing masks that cover their eyes and ears which could suggest that they are deaf and blind to their surroundings. Further on in the music video she is shown wearing black. This could portray that she has now lost her purity and innocence because of the music industry.

The image above shows these pods that Lady Gaga and the other women emerged from. On the one that Lady Gaga came out of has the word ‘Monster’ on; this could link in with her fans as they are called Little Monsters. By having this in the video she is showing how her fans have helped her get to where she is now.
This is a screenshot from the Bad Romance video. It shows how everyone is bidding for Lady Gaga now that she is famous. It could mean that she is just being used by the music industry to make money.

This shot shows Lady Gaga and other women dancing in front of a group of men. The shot could be illustrating how the music industry, being the men, is conducting Lady Gaga to do what they want. Also, by them being men it could symbolise how men have more power in the music industry compared to the women and that Lady Gaga wants to change this.

In the Bad Romance music video, product placement is used a few times. This is the same as her other music video Telephone, where Virgin mobile is blatantly advertised in a few shots. The product placement used in this music video is a speaker created by Parrot. This is shown in the image below.

At the end of the music video there is a scene that shows how Lady Gaga has now got the power over the music industry. This is because she has done what the music industry have told her to do which has allowed her to gain an army of fans that have provided her support and the power to do what she wants now.
